Nail Trends for Autumn/Winter 2012

Say goodbye to the classic black for autumn/winter this year and hello to mixed up manicures, duo chrome metallics and pillar box reds!
Of course burgundy, black and grey nails are a classic for this time of year but a more modern and youthful twist has recently been taken on these shades. At the shows of Donna Karen and Thakoon we saw the ‘upside down manicure’ consisting of a reversed nude base with a black or burgundy tip. This look is sleak, simple and the perfect way to add that modern twist on a timeless shade.

Duo chrome metallics are colour infused metals which are sweeping the high-end brands and the drug-store brands like no tomorrow. Everyday another brand has a new line out and its no wonder they are proving to be so popular. The warm rose infused golds and the emerald green silvers are not only youthful but extremely versatile for this season. A current widespread favourite is said to be the Beetle Juice range by Models Own. The nine multi-tonal shades each are made up of 4 pearlescent shades which come together to make one gleaming metallic finish.Models Own Beetle Juice range (£5 each)

Red alert! Pillarbox, siren, rose- every shade of red in in this season. So vamp it up and flaunt those fingers whether you’re a burgundy girl or a coral queen, the right shade is right at your finger tips. Red never goes out of style but this season extra points are given to those who can match it with their lipstick. Revlon Red comes in both a lipstick and a nail polish allowing you to get that exact match. Ahh perfect.

But hey! If you’re more the classic simplistic type and those burgundys, blacks and hot chocolates are right for you then you are still bang on trend! But don’t be afraid to mix it up a little this season, glassy electric blues and opaque shimmering purples have also been making an appearance. Whatever your style there is a perfect shade for you.
