Breaking at the cracks.

It’s time to layer up!

And by that I don’t just mean coats and scarves but by slapping on some thick luscious moisturiser.

Keeping your skin hydrated is the no.1 rule of skincare. When washing the face what we are basically doing is stripping the skin of its natural oils and replacing that with harsh cleaning chemicals so moisturising is vital in keeping skin healthy.

A good moisturiser will:

  • maintain a moisture balance
  • help with the healing of skin
  • act as a barrier to the elements (chilly winter air!)
  • prevent skin from becoming dry and flaky
  • prompt skin cell regeneration and
  • fight against premature signs of ageing

And so here are my top five for this winter, that won’t only help keep your skin feeling hydrated but won’t break the bank. Bonus!

  1. SIMPLE KIND TO SKIN REPLENISHING RICH MOISTURISER, £3.26

This super saver does exactly what it promises: a light, fragrance-free cream that gives intense moisture, without making skin greasy. Skin is left feeling soft, smooth, nourished and replenished all day long. With a perfect blend of active ingredients and vitamin goodness it’s perfect for even sensitive skin!

  1. YES TO CARROTS MOISTURISING DAY CREAM FOR DRY SKIN, £12

For those who want to protect their skin from those chemical nasties look to YesTo Carrots. Its purse-pleasing day cream contains both organic carrot and orange juice which act as anti-oxidants, leaving skin feeling smooth and fresh. The thick, almost night cream like, texture blends finely into the skin leaving you with a healthy nourishing glow that radiates through the day. This paraben-free day cream contains Dead Sea minerals and is perfect for sensitive skin.

  1. BODYSHOP VITAMIN E MOISTURE INTENSE CREAM, £12

This best-seller holds its title for a reason. This luxuriously smooth moisturiser has been specifically formulated to work best for dry skin types but works relatively well with all. With the lightness of a lotion and the moisturising benefits of a cream moisture is locked in helping to restore the skin’s natural moisture barrier. A small amount goes a long way to leaving skin radiant, soft and silky smooth.

  1. CLINIQUE MOISTURE SURGE EXTENDED THIRST RELIEF, £32

Although slightly pricey  as the name suggests, this pretty pink cream-gel really does give thirsty skins an intensive moisture boost. This skin “drink” has been newly reformulated to constantly plump the skin with hydration, dry skin types will love the way it immediately nourishes and banishes any signs of face dandruff! Despite an initial greasy feel, it absorbs quickly to leave skin smooth, radiant and, most importantly, deeply moisturised.

  1. DERMALOGICA INTENSIVE MOISTURE BALANCE, £38

The most expensive on the list but an investment worth making.

This vitamin-rich cream is specifically designed to nurture and nourish dry skin and combat the signs of ageing. Complexions are lefts feeling smooth, supple and deliciously soft. Formulated with vitamins A, C and E, grape seed extract and wild yam, it contains no artificial fragrance or colour, making this product not only great for sensitive skin but for all skin-types. A winter splurge worth making.
